Compound gear train table
Track stage ratios, speed and rotation direction through a compound external gear train.
A clear answer. Here’s how.
Each row supplies whole driver/driven tooth counts from 1–1 million. The next driver is assumed rigidly coupled to the preceding driven shaft. External meshes reverse direction at each stage; ratio and RPM propagate cumulatively. Supports up to 20 stages. Idlers, internal gears, differential/planetary constraints, efficiency and strength are excluded.

Example result
| Stage | Driver teeth | Driven teeth | Stage reduction | Cumulative reduction | Output RPM | Direction |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 20 | 60 | 3 | 3 | 400 | Opposite to input |
| 2 | 15 | 45 | 3 | 9 | 133.333333333 | Same as input |
External gears at every stage. Each next-stage driver is rigidly coupled to the prior driven shaft; idlers and planetary trains are not inferred.
