Printable graph paper and grid generator
Print true-scale graph paper as PDF or SVG: square, dot, isometric, hexagonal, polar, log, music staff, Cornell or ruled.
A clear answer. Here’s how.
The printable area is the sheet (ISO 216 A3, A4 and A5; ANSI Letter, Legal and Tabloid) minus the margin on every side, and minus 8 mm for a title. A square or dot grid holds as many whole cells as fit (cells = floor(printable length ÷ spacing)) and is centred, so any leftover is split between opposite margins. Isometric paper uses equilateral triangles of the given side with one family of lines vertical (columns are side × √3/2 apart); hexagons are flat-topped; polar paper has rings at the spacing and rays at the chosen angle around the centre; log grids divide the length into equal decades with lines at log10(1…10); music paper draws five-line staves separated by 1.5 staff heights; Cornell paper has a cue column of one third of the width (the note column twice as wide) and a summary area of about 5 cm, as described on Wikipedia, with ruled lines throughout. Major lines are twice the line weight, axes three times; dots are three times the line weight across, and one and a half times that where heavier lines would cross. The SVG is sized in mm and the PDF page in points (1 mm = 72/25.4 pt) with vector lines at the same coordinates and only the standard Helvetica font, so both print at true scale when printed at 100% or Actual size. Printers often cannot reach the edge of the sheet and some scale to fit by default, so measure a 10-cell run after printing. At most 20,000 lines or 40,000 dots per sheet.
How this is checked
5 reference checks passed These 5 cases were run when this page was built, on 20 October 2026, and all reproduce within the stated tolerance. The same cases are part of the automated tests that run on every change to Toolmoz. Engine version 1.

Case 1
- Inputs
- The tool’s default inputs
- Expected, and what Toolmoz gave
- Printable width (mm) expected 190, Toolmoz 190Printable height (mm) expected 277, Toolmoz 277Cells across expected 38, Toolmoz 38Cells down expected 55, Toolmoz 55Fits whole cells expected No, Toolmoz NoLeftover down (mm) expected 2, Toolmoz 2Lines drawn expected 95, Toolmoz 95
- Where the expected answer comes from
- By hand: A4 is 210 × 297 mm; minus 2 × 10 mm margins gives 190 × 277; 190 / 5 = 38 cells, 277 / 5 = 55.4 so 55 cells and 2 mm over; 39 vertical + 56 horizontal lines = 95
- Allowed difference
- ±1e-9
Case 2
- Inputs
- Paper size letterSpacing 0.25Spacing unit inMargin on every side (mm) 12.7
- Expected, and what Toolmoz gave
- Page size (points) expected 612, Toolmoz 612.0000000000001Cells across expected 30, Toolmoz 30Cells down expected 40, Toolmoz 40Fits whole cells expected Yes, Toolmoz YesLines drawn expected 72, Toolmoz 72
- Where the expected answer comes from
- By hand: Letter is 8.5 × 11 in, 8.5 × 72 = 612 pt; half-inch margins leave 7.5 × 10 in, so 30 × 40 quarter-inch cells and 31 + 41 = 72 lines
- Allowed difference
- ±1e-9
Case 3
- Inputs
- Paper size a5Orientation landscapeGrid dotMargin on every side (mm) 9
- Expected, and what Toolmoz gave
- Cells across expected 38, Toolmoz 38Cells down expected 26, Toolmoz 26Dots drawn expected 1053, Toolmoz 1053
- Where the expected answer comes from
- By hand: A5 landscape is 210 × 148 mm; minus 18 mm gives 192 × 130; 38 × 26 whole 5 mm cells, so 39 × 27 = 1053 dots
- Allowed difference
- exact
Case 4
- Inputs
- Grid isometricSpacing 10
- Expected, and what Toolmoz gave
- Columns of triangles expected 21, Toolmoz 21Rows of triangles expected 27, Toolmoz 27Grid width (mm) expected 181.865, Toolmoz 181.865
- Where the expected answer comes from
- By hand: columns are 10 × √3/2 = 8.66025 mm apart, 190 / 8.66025 = 21.9 so 21 columns, 21 × 8.66025 = 181.865 mm; 277 / 10 = 27 rows
- Allowed difference
- ±0.0005
Case 5
- Inputs
- Grid polarSpacing 10
- Expected, and what Toolmoz gave
- Rings expected 9, Toolmoz 9Radial lines expected 24, Toolmoz 24Lines drawn expected 33, Toolmoz 33
- Where the expected answer comes from
- By hand: the largest circle inside 190 × 277 mm has radius 95 mm, so 9 rings 10 mm apart; 360 / 15 = 24 rays; 9 + 24 = 33
- Allowed difference
- exact
What this shows: the engine reproduces independently worked values for these cases. It does not prove every possible input is right. To test an answer you were given, see how to check a number; to see what is and is not checked across Toolmoz, see the accuracy ledger.

The grid is centred, so the leftover part of a cell is split between opposite margins. The SVG and PDF are drawn in true millimetres: print at 100% (Actual size), not "Fit to page", then check a 10-cell run with a ruler. Many printers cannot print right to the edge of the sheet.
