IPv6 address formatter
Compress, expand and classify an IPv6 address, with an optional prefix range.
A clear answer. Here’s how.
Parses eight 16-bit groups, expanding “::” into the missing zeros. Compression follows RFC 5952: lowercase hexadecimal, leading zeros removed, and “::” replaces the longest run of two or more zero groups (the first when tied). The reverse DNS name lists the 32 hexadecimal digits in reverse order under ip6.arpa (RFC 3596). With a prefix the tool reports the network, last address and number of addresses. Types are matched by longest prefix against well-known ranges.
