Spearman rank correlation
Measure the association between two paired lists using ranks.
A clear answer. Here’s how.
Assigns ascending average ranks to tied values, then calculates Pearson correlation of those ranks. Requires equal list lengths, at least two observations and non-constant ranks in both lists. Reports the coefficient only; no p-value, causal conclusion or assumption of a linear relationship in the original units is supplied.

Worked example
A fixed demonstration, separate from the values you enter above.
- First sample
- 10, 12, 9, 11, 13
- Second sample
- 8, 9, 11, 7, 10
Example result
- Spearman rank correlation
- -0.1
- Paired observations
- 5
Average ranks are used for ties. No p-value is inferred.
