Sunrise and sunset calculator
Find sunrise, sunset, solar noon, day length and twilight for any latitude, longitude and date.
A clear answer. Here’s how.
Computes the Sun’s apparent position with the NOAA solar-calculator formulas from Meeus: mean longitude and anomaly, equation of centre, obliquity, declination and equation of time. The hour angle for a 90.833° zenith (refraction plus the Sun’s radius) gives sunrise and sunset around solar noon, refined once at the event times. Civil twilight uses a 96° zenith. Day length changes are compared with the previous day. At high latitudes the Sun may stay up or down all day, which the tool reports.

Times are shown for UTC+1 on 2026-06-21. Uses the NOAA solar-position formulas (Meeus) with the standard 0.833° allowance for refraction and the Sun’s radius, accurate to about a minute at mid-latitudes and less certain near the poles. Sunrise and sunset are for a flat horizon at sea level: hills, buildings, altitude and unusual weather change what you see. Enter the UTC offset that applies on that date, including daylight saving time.
