Add independent sound levels
Combine uncorrelated sound levels measured using the same reference.
A clear answer. Here’s how.
Combined level = 10log₁₀(sum(10^(level/10))). Uses a maximum-level offset for stable arithmetic. Applies to independent or uncorrelated sources measured with the same reference and weighting. Coherent phase relationships can change the result; no exposure or hearing-safety judgement is made.
